It’s more than a fishing tournament… we are Reelin’ for a Cause.

The CalvertHealth Foundation is pleased to announce a new event - Reelin’ for a Cause, a catch and release charity fishing tournament benefiting Cancer Care at CalvertHealth. It’s more than a fishing tournament, it’s a fundraising tournament – and the Captain/team that raises the most money will be crowned winners of the Captain’s Challenge. In addition to the bragging rights for the next year, a plaque with the Captain’s Challenge winner will be displayed in the medical center.

Proceeds from Reelin’ for a Cause will support the advancement of cancer care at CalvertHealth, including the development of a robotic surgery program and our continued affiliation with Duke Health. Duke Health is a national leader in cancer care that will open doors to clinical trials and research for local patients close to home. Our cancer mission is to bring the best oncology care available to Calvert and our neighboring counties. One out of every three persons will be touched by cancer in their lifetime – and every single one deserves the most advanced cancer care locally.

So, how can you help change the landscape of Cancer Care in Southern Maryland? Consider an event sponsorship package or creating your own team. As a part of this fishing and fundraising competition among friends, we want to help you and your team get creative in reelin’ in the support for such a great cause.

Stay tuned for more information regarding registrations, sponsorships and day of information.

Below are the rules for the 2023 tournament.

Fundraising:
Reelin’ for a Cause is a tournament to raise money for Cancer Care at CalvertHealth. It is requested that all entries raise at least $1500.

Entry Fee:
$500 per boat for four (4) anglers (the captain and up to three additional anglers). Additional anglers will need to register for $150 each. Teams are responsible for providing their own boat. Registration includes a tournament long-sleeve shirt.

Fishing Area:
Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.

Fishing Hours:
Saturday, September 7, 2024 – Fishing lines in at 6 a.m. and fishing lines out at 3 p.m. Catch and release photos must be submitted (via the official tournament app) by 4 p.m. to qualify.

Eligible Fish:
This is a catch and release tournament. Any species of legal game fish is eligible. All fish must be legal according to MD DNR rules and laws.

Fishing Method:
All legal forms of fishing (hook and line only) are allowed. This includes chumming, trolling, live lining, etc.

Line:
All types of line may be used.

Measurement:
Only photo entries submitted via the official tournament app will be accepted. All fish must be measured with the tournament issues measuring stick – which will be provided to each boat/team captain at the Captain’s Meeting on Friday, September 15.

All participants are required to register for no charge at ianglertournament.com.

The length of each fish will be determined by length measured from the tip of the snout to the tip of the tail (you may pinch the tail). Put the 2023 measuring stick on the deck of your boat. Lay the fish on the measuring stick, or next to the stick if the fish size will cover the entire ruler. Put the snout on the zero mark (the end of the stick). It helps to jam the measuring stick against a vertical surface to ensure that the zero mark, and the snout of the fish are even. Fish will be measured to the nearest 1/8th of an inch.

In case of a tie, the fish submitted first will be the winner, and the time considered will be the time that the iAngler tournament servers received the photo.

Contest Categories:
Trophies will be awarded for longest fish overall, women’s longest fish and to the team that raises the most money.

The Captain/team that raises the most money will be crowned winners of the Captain’s Challenge and in addition to bragging rights for the next year, a plaque with the team name will be placed in the medical center.

Is attendance at the Captain’s Meeting mandatory?

When will I receive my Reelin’ for a Cause shirt?
Reelin’ for a Cause shirts for all Captains and anglers are available for pick up at the Captain’s meeting.

Do I have to have my own boat?
Unless you are sponsoring the event at a level that includes a charter boat (Red Fish Sponsorship), it is expected that each team provide their own boat. If you and a group of friends want to sponsor (Cobia, Rockfish, or Blush Fish levels) or simply form a team but do not have a boat, you could go in together and charter a boat.

Can I buy tickets to the Shore Party?
Yes, additional tickets to the Bayside Auto Group Shore Party will be made available for purchase at a later date.

All sponsorship levels include boat entry and registration for four (4) to 15 anglers depending on the level. The team registration fee is $500 and includes one captain and four (4) anglers. All sponsorship levels and team registrations come with an allotted number of tickets to the Bayside Auto Group Shore Party. It is our hope that whether or not you opt to sponsor or register a team, you will choose to fundraise for this important cause.
